In my opinion, cartilage transplant may not replace knee replacement for decades to come. It does have a role in focal cartilage defects like in OCD but its role in osteoarthritis is debatable.
ACI and OATS have been extensively used in young atheletes with focal defects but OA being a generalised and tri-compartment disesase, is unlikley to benefit from these techniques.
