Revision Total hip replacement

The incidence of revision total hip replacement is increasing at an alarming rate in India.

Most common reasons for revision are infection, recurrent dislocation, polyethylene wear and peri-prosthetic fractures.

Surgeons need to be aware of these causes and be able to diagnose them accurately. The success of revision depends on a timely diagnosis and correction of the underlying pathology.

With moderm prosthesis like the modular stems, HA coated stems, trabecular metal implants, large diameter femoral heads,  3rd generation polyethylene and 3rd generation ceramic heads, the results of revision hip replacement are very good at 12-15 years.
